Live coverage of Expedition 26/MagISStra launch from Baikonur

ESA TV Live

 

On 15 December, Italian ESA astronaut Paolo Nespoli, American Catherine Coleman and Russian Dmitri Kondratyev will be launched in a Soyuz TMA spacecraft from Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan for a challenging 6-month mission on the International Space Station (ISS).

 

Launch is scheduled at 19.09.25 GMT

 

ESA TV will provide live coverage of the countdown to launch and flight into orbit with images from the historic cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and from the Mission Control Centre near Moscow. The transmission will also include launch-day images of the crew suit-up, walk-out to salute and their wave as they go onto the launcher.

 

The ESA live transmission starts at 18:30 GMT but live and pre-launch images will be fed from Baikonur from 17:30 GMT for line-up and background.

 

As soon as possible after the launch, highlights will be available via the ESA TV ftp server.

HISPASAT 1E undergoes its fit-check at the Spaceport’s clean room facilities in French Guiana.

December 14, 2010 – Ariane Flight 199

Arianespace’s year-ending Ariane 5 flight for 2010 has been rescheduled to December 28, allowing one of the mission’s customers to perform complementary checks on its payload.

This launch from the Spaceport in French Guiana will mark Ariane 5’s sixth dual-passenger flight of 2010, and is to carry the HISPASAT 1E and KOREASAT 6 telecommunications satellite payloads.

During activity at the Spaceport this month, HISPASAT 1E underwent the fit-check – during which its integration was validated with the cone-shaped adapter that serves as the interface between payload and launcher.

HISPASAT 1E was built by Space Systems/Loral, and is a powerful, state-of-the-art Ku-band spacecraft for Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) and Broadcast Satellite Services (BSS). It is designed to provide high-quality capacity for the new initiatives of Spanish-based HISPASAT, which includes direct-to-home television; digital terrestrial television; high-definition television; along with value-added broadband services in mobile, land and maritime environments.

The KOREASAT 6 spacecraft was produced by an industry team of Orbital Sciences Corp. and Thales Alenia Space for the KT Corporation of the Republic of Korea. This spacecraft carries 24 Ku-Band channels to provide Fixed Satellite Services (FSS) and 6 channels for Direct Broadcast Services (DBS).
