To modify the flash or flash hardware of a cam you may need some special equipment:

 

Programmer for the W29C040T-90 (This is a Winbond part Number - Full technical specifications HERE)

A 32 pin SOIC Test Clip

Flash Cam File (this file here is for an Aston cam to Freecam)

Maybe a small tipped soldering iorn (if you remove the IC).

Maybe an adapter for the programmer (if you remove the IC).

This modification to a Viaccess Red Cam does not work on the Echostar 3000 ADP

It works for all Manhattan and Echostar 3600 and Echostar 2200

 

Now we will look at modifiying an Irdeto / Viaccess cam.

Both these cams have a 32 pin Flash memory chip called AT29C040 (This is a Atmel Code) and this is a 4 Megabit (512 X 8), 5 volt Flash memory (4Mb (512K × 8) CMOS PEROM, 5V only - 120ns Access)

To program this flash memory you need a Atmel programmer.

 

Now if you are going to program a AT29C040 Flash memory you need the IC, the flash file and an adaptor for the programmer.

The flash file will need to be read from an existing cam thats been programmed to work as a FREECAM.

 

 

If you want to use an adaptor you need to order a 32 TSOP to 32 DIP Clam shell pin to pin converter, this is about $90 US dollers from HERE.

The pdf data sheet for this adapter is HERE. The adaptor can be purchased from: Newark Electronics and the price is $264.34. I also found the manufacture of this adapter at ICE Tech in Sheffield, England.There are many prices for this adapter, so shop around before you buy.

You could re program the Flash memory without removing the memory or without buying the expensive 32 TSOP to 32 DIP adapter.

Now to use this 32 pin SOIC with the above programmer you need to solder some wires from the test clip to a 32 pin socket (see below) that can be inserted in the above MICRO PRO programmer. So below is the pin numbers of the TSOP IC thats fitted in the Cam and to the right are the pin numbers of a standard DIP package that will work with the above programmer. So you solder from the 32 pin dil socket to the above test clip 32 wires. then you can insert the dil socket into the programmer and program the 29C040 TSOP on board.

Bovenstaand is alleen van toepassing voor een gewone CI,
