Binnenkort 30 nieuwe internationale BBC kanalen

 

 

BBC Worldwide zal binnenkort het internationale aanbod van televisiezenders verder uitbreiden. Niet minder dan 30 nieuwe zenders, die alleen beschikbaar komen voor de internationale markt, zullen in de komende tijd het levenslicht zien.

 

BBC Worldwide is de commerciële tak van de Engelse publieke omroep, en voelt dus geen directe gevolgen van de grote bezuinigingsoperatie bij het publieke gedeelte van de Engelse omroep. Daar zullen vele mensen het werk verliezen en gesneden worden in programmabudgetten, vooral van nieuws en actualiteiten programma’s.

 

In de komende vijf jaar moet BBC Worldwide wel de inkomsten uit verkoop van internationale kanalen zien te verdubbelen. Het zal daarom nieuwe digitale markten aanboren. De 30 nieuwe kanalen zullen regionale versies van bekende BBC Worldwide themakanalen zijn. Zo zullen er nieuwe land- of regiogebonden versies komen van BBC Entertainment, BBC Lifestyle, BBC Knowledge en Cbeebies. Daarnaast zullen er nieuwe HD-kanalen voor de internationale markt komen en komt er voor de Amerikaanse markt een nieuw kanaal onder de naam BBC America.

 

De eerste vijf regionale versies van BBC Worldwide themakanalen zullen nog dit jaar in Polen worden uitgerold. Daarna wordt de Duitse, Franse en Scandinavische markt voorzien van regionale edities. Buiten Europa zullen daarnaast de digitale televisiemarkten in Azië, Maleisië, Filippijnen, Noord-Amerika, Latijns-Amerika en Afrika voorzien worden van BBC Worldwide themakanalen.

 

HDTV-versies van enkele BBC Worldwide kanalen worden als eerste in Japan, Australië, Zuid Korea, Amerika en Italië gelanceerd. Het ziet er niet naar uit dat BBC Worldwide op korte termijn een HDTV-aanbod aan Nederlandse digitale televisieaanbieders zal aanbieden.LANG_THREAD_THX

Woensdag 31 oktober 2007, 07:25 - Onderzoekers constateren verschillende scheuren in de netwerkmuur van Apple's nieuwste besturingssysteem.

 

De firewall van OS X 10.5 Leopard is zo lek als een mandje, zo blijkt uit een eerste veiligheidsonderzoek van Heise Security. 'De firewall van Leopard is gezakt voor elke test', zo concluderen de onderzoekers.

 

Ten eerste staat de firewall na installatie van Leopard standaard in de modus "Allow all incoming connections", oftewel uit. Wellicht gebruiksvriendelijk, maar niet verstandig, vindt Jürgen Schmidt van Heise Security.

 

Bij de setting "Set access for specific services and applications" is het al niet veel beter. Hier laat Leopard alle uitgaande internetverbindingen toe voor processen op de computer. Dat kan dus, naast een gewenste en doelbewuste connectie van de gebruiker, ook een verborgen Trojaans paard zijn dat een achterdeurtje opent, aldus Schmidt.

 

Zelfs als gebruikers de strengste stand "Block all incoming connections" inschakelen, kunnen potentiële aanvallers nog steeds van buitenaf toegang krijgen tot basale netwerkservices op de computer, zoals de tijdserver en de NetBIOS naamserver. Dat blijkt uit poortscans die Heise uitvoerde.

 

Tom Ptacek, een andere beveiligingsexpert, ontzenuwt de verontrustende conclusies van Heise Security enigszins. Volgens hem zijn de huidige kwetsbaarheden historisch gezien nauwelijks bekend als aanvalsvectoren.

 

"Bovendien draaien veel services van Leopard in een 'sandbox' of virtuele zandbak, en die is veel interessanter en effectiever dan de firewall", aldus Ptacek tegen eWeek.

 

Apple heeft nog niet inhoudelijk gereageerd op het kritische firewall-rapport. Afgelopen maandag werd al duidelijk dat Leopard met kinderziektes kampt. Veel Tiger-upgraders hadden installatieproblemen en ook bleek dat Java versie 1.6 nog niet wordt ondersteund

DRS 4 News is nieuw Zwitsers radiokanaal

 

26-10-2007 - De Zwitsers-Duitse radio-omroep Radio DRS lanceert op 5 november aanstaande haar nieuwe digitale radiokanaal DRS 4 News. De nieuwe publieke radiozender zal doorlopend informatie brengen over politiek, economie, beurzen, sport, cultuur, media, IT, en onderwijs. Elk half uur zal er een nieuwsuitzending zijn en overdag is er ieder kwartier een korte samenvatting van de hoofdpunten. Daarnaast zal het station veel uitgebreide interviews gaan brengen over thema’s waar op andere kanalen nooit tijd voor wordt vrijgemaakt.

 

Voor het opzetten van de nieuwszender, die in Zwitserland via DAB (ether), Kabel en Satelliet zal worden verspreid, is Markus Föderl aangetrokken. Hij was voorheen Chefredacteur bij de Duitse nieuwszender n-tv. Föderl zal als consultant optreden bij DRS4 en heeft al 15 jaar ervaring met het opzetten van 24-uurs nieuwszenders en het omgaan met breaking-news. DRS 4 News is al in testmodus verschenen op de satelliet Hotbird, waar alle Zwitserse stations te vinden zijn.

 

Schweizer Radio DRS is de Duitstalige tak van SSR-SRG Idée Suisse. Zij hadden al de stations DRS 1 (nieuws, regionaal, muziek, sport, verkeer), DRS 2 (klassiek-cultuur), DRS 3 (popzender, nieuws & verkeer), DRS Virus (alternatieve popmuziek), DRS Musikwelle (Zwitserse volksmuziek) & Radio Rumantsch (regionaal station in de Reto-Romaanse taal). Daarnaast worden door SSR-SRG ook via de satelliet de stations Swiss Classic, Swiss Pop & Swiss Jazz verspreid. Bovendien zijn er 3 Italiaanstalige en 4 Franstalige zenders en zal binnenkort ook World Radio Switzerland starten (daarover binnenkort uitgebreid bericht).

This images doesn't contain any keys or softcams. Backups or other modified Images are not from us and won't be supported!

 

Recommendation:

If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present

if several processes running in background.

Wenn man das Image nicht im Flash installiert, sollte das Flash-Image nicht zu alt sein.

Recommendation:

If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present

if several processes running in background.

Donderdag 25 oktober 2007, 11:26 - Microsoft drijft netwerkbeheerders tot wanhoop door ongevraagd Windows Desktop Search 3.01 op pc's te installeren, waardoor systemen vertragen.

 

Uit talloze blogs blijkt dat Microsoft gisteren ongevraagd de zoekdienst Windows Desktop Search 3.01 heeft geïnstalleerd op bedrijfscomputers, zo meldt The Register. Ook netwerkbeheerders die hadden aangegeven alleen updates te installeren van bestaande programma's, waartoe Desktop Search niet behoorde, kregen het programma opgedrongen.

 

Een netwerkbeheerder van 3.000 pc's schrijft behoorlijk boos te zijn vanwege de ongevraagde installatie, omdat Microsofts zoeksoftware de pc's aanzienlijk vertraagt. Het probleem doet zich voor bij (bedrijfs)netwerken die gebruik maken van Windows Server Update Services.

 

Vorige maand ontdekten bloggers al dat Microsofts automatische updatedienst stilletjes een Windows patch installeerde, ook op systemen die waren ingesteld om geen updates te doen. Volgens hen zouden gebruikers zelf de volledige controle over hun pc's moeten hebben. Microsoft meende dat de patch nodig was om ervoor te zorgen dat Windows Update voortaan goed zou werken. Wel zouden klanten meer openheid over de updates krijgen.

 

Behalve de automatische updates leidt ook de antipiraterijsoftware van Vista tot klachten van gebruikers. Dinsdag maakte een Australische it-journalist bekend dat door een kleine ingreep als het vervangen van een driver Vista onverwachts wordt gedeactiveerd. 24-10-2007 - Met de verwoestende bosbranden in Zuid-Californië doet CNN bijna niets anders meer dan daarover berichten. Meer variatie is te vinden bij het NBC Nightly News. Dit is dé nationale nieuwsuitzending van NBC in de Verenigde Staten en gaat om 18.30 on-air aan de Amerikaanse oostkust. Het programma wordt live overgenomen op CNBC in Europa en wel om 00.30 uur plaatselijke tijd. Daarmee is het één van de weinige echte Amerikaanse nieuwsprogramma's die te zien zijn bij ons.

 

De doordeweekse nieuwsuitzendingen werden ruim 20 jaar gepresenteerd door 'anchor' Tom Brokaw maar sinds december 2004 is dit in handen van zijn opvolger Brian Williams die ook zo'n typisch Amerikaanse stem heeft. Meestal wordt NBC Nightly News gepresenteerd vanuit het Rockefeller Center (General Electric) in New-York, maar steeds vaker ook ter plaatse zoals deze week bijvoorbeeld vanaf de ramplocaties in Californië. De uitzending wordt wel een aantal malen (zoals in de VS met vrijwel alles het geval is) onderbroken door reclame maar duurt in totaal een half uur.

 

CNBC (we hebben het over de 24 uursversie die vooral een mix is van Europese en Amerikaanse programma's) is Free To Air (gratis) te ontvangen via de satelliet Astra-1 en is daarmee ook voor alle CanalDigitaal- en TV Vlaanderen-kijkers te zien. Het kanaal zit ook op de meeste digitale kabelpakketten (meestal tegen extra abonnementskosten) maar op kabelnetten van Casema (o.a. regio Utrecht, Den-Haag, Breda, Amersfoort, Leiden, Delft, Amstelveen) momenteel niet in het digitale pakket beschikbaar.
