Philips licences CryptoWorks™ CA system for use in DigitAll World MHP set-top box

Eindhoven, the Netherlands – Philips Digital Networks, a leading supplier of digital TV solutions, is to licence its advanced CryptoWorks conditional access (CA) system to DigitAll World, a leading Korean set-top box (STB) developer, manufacturer and a designhouse for other leading STB manufacturers. The licence will enable DigitAll World to launch its advanced Multimedia Home Platform (MHP)-based DVB-Terrestrial (DVB-T) set-top box featuring Philips’ highly secure CryptoWorks CA system in the second quarter of 2002.

CryptoWorks smart cards are among the most secure cards in the industry. CryptoWorks is well positioned to cover the entire range of digital video and multimedia content protection from distribution to broadcasting, including a future-proof and secure solution for IP content protection, as well as protection of content stored locally in consumers’ homes, all using the same smart card.

The new DigitAll World DVB-T set-top box is based on a Philips Semiconductors chipset and features MHP middleware. The DVB-MHP is an open standard for digital TV receivers that provides a universal, open interface for the development of multimedia added value applications for digital TV programs and services. As a founder member of the DVB-MHP working group, Philips has a pioneering role in helping to define the MHP specifications and, bring the standard to market. The MHP provides the key to drive fast adoption of interactive digital television, giving consumers complete freedom of choice.

Jan Eveleens, general manager of the CryptoTec business group within Philips Digital Networks, said: “We are very pleased to be working together with DigitAll World to provide a highly secure and flexible set top box platform for digital terrestrial broadcasters and operators. DigitAll World’s choice for the CryptoWorks CA system demonstrates the confidence within the industry in our highly secure CA system.”

Kevin Shin, executive director of DigitAll World commented: “Through our licensing agreement with Philips, our joint efforts will contribute to the fast adoption of interactive digital terrestrial television by consumers. Featuring MHP and the advanced CryptoWorks CA system, our high-end DVB-T set-top box is strongly positioned for the roll-out of DVB-T by terrestrial broadcasters and operators across Europe.”

Je maakt me nieuwsgierig....
