deze speelt mijn 8k box gewoon af via de optische toslink audiouitgang. in het audiomenu van de "MediaCenter Plugin" zie ik ook gewoon de AAC audiokeuze staan met de AC3 downmix op "Off".

het programma geeft de opties weer:

- MPEG-4 AVC format (audio uses Advanced Audio Coding, AAC)
- ISO MPEG-4 format (audio uses Advanced Audio Coding, AAC)

zitten daar nog verschillen in?

BTW als je een versterker / "mediacenter" hebt die AAC zelf kan decoderen dan werkt het misschien wel.

zitten daar nog verschillen in?

Ow, goodie, de leuke kleine lettertjes van aac. Het zou om twee dingen kunnen gaan: er is een mpeg-2 "aac" standaard en een mpeg-4 "aac" standaard, ze zijn voor "lc" (low complexity) voor zover ik weet gelijk (mooi he...) en die wordt meestal gebruikt. Het probleem met aac is dat je nooit weet wat ze bedoelen, want het is een vergaarbak van allerlei methodes. Meestal bedoelt men volgens mij mpeg4-aac-lc of mpeg4-aac-he (high efficiency). Je ontkomt denk ik niet aan gewoon uitproberen. Als je aac in een mp4 container gaat stoppen kan dat ook weer op twee manier (zucht), het kan ook nog zijn dat ze dat bedoelen, maar daar heb je met je transport stream als het goed is geen last van.

Ik gebruik daarvoor TMPGenc Xpress, die weer gebruik maakt van de MainConcept H.264/AVC encoder. Prima resultaat en het is af te spelen op de Dreambox (DM800 in mijn geval). Er zijn volgens mij ook prima gratis alternatieven.

is er een instelling beschikbaar die het huidige videoformaat 1 op 1 overneemt en alleen maar converteert naar een andere gewenste codec? mpeg4-avc / h264 in dit geval

De instellingen hebben natuurlijk direct invloed op de grootte van de output. Ik had nog de volgende opmerkingen op je instellingen:
Gebruik de MPEG-4 AVC
-Level automatic is standaard 4.1
-Aspect ratio: zet die op 4:3 of 16:9 als je DVD resolutie wilt behouden.
-De framerate moet je hetzelde houden als je input signaal (doet Xpress standaard).
-De rate control mode op 2 pass Variable Bitrate zetten (betere kwaliteit)
-De audio bitrate zou ik wat hoger instellen bv 256

After a couple of weeks without updates I finally released a new version today. It was time to add a Folder Output option. Even if it doesn't work like it should is not a big problem. Will be fixed soon. For me it was time to add more languages. Besides English I found someone who translated it into French. Also Dutch is added. Made that one myself ofcource.

 

The authors of x264 made some great improvements. Pass 1 is about 40% faster at my pc. Really nice. AVCHDCoder is now more then 1 month in public and it is still in its early stage. There are very nice things to come. Like adding a menu and adding more movies on 1 disc. Multiple subtitles and maybe choosing thumbnales but I am not sure.

This is a list of things that are still unsupported:

 

No AAC

Only TrueHD, DTS-HD@3045Kbps, DTS, AC3 448Kbps and AC3 640Kbps are supported.

No 2.0/7.1 sound. Only 5.1 channel audio supported.

It's not possible to burn after conversion.

Only 1 subtitle is supported.

Only 1 audio track is supported.

 

 

But the most will be done automaticly. Here is a list of awesome features:

 

You don't need to convert a srt yourself. The only thing you do is adding your srt file and choose some settings.

Internal srt and PGS sup files are supported.

Conversion of audio will be done automaticly.

Down/up covertion from AC3 to AC3.

Down convertion of DTS-HD and True-HD tracks.

Chapter support.

You only need to choose your output resolution. Borders will be added automaticly. Downscaling will also be done automaticly.

You can choose between DVD5 and DVD9 output.

Feature to watch the approx. bitrate before encoding.

Iso will created for you so it is ready to burn.

No need to configure the x264 encoder. There is 1 build in profile that can't be edited.

Muxing will be done automaticly.

Unique formules to calculate the bitrate. In most cases the disc is filled for almost 100%. But I'll need your feedback to tweak it.

Sorry it's been so long, but we think you'll all agree this release of HandBrake was worth the wait. Where to begin?

Universal input

HandBrake is no longer limited to DVDs: it will now acceptpractically any type of video as a source. This massive enhancement wasachieved by tapping into the power of libavcodec and libavformat fromthe FFmpeg project.

Linux GUI

There is now an official GTK graphical interface for Linux,available as a binary for Ubuntu. This is the real deal, interactingdirectly with HandBrake's core library instead of just putting a prettyface on a command line interface. It has full feature parity with theMac interface.

Video quality

The x264 project has really come into its own this year, andHandBrake 0.9.3 integrates the latest improvements to the H.264encoding library. Picture quality has enhanced dramatically through theuse of psychovisual rate distortion and adaptive quantization, andthere have been significant speed optimizations.

Audio flexibility

HandBrake now offers total control over multiple audio tracks.

No more internal DVD decryption

Yeah, we know, no one reading this is going "Oh wow, no more DVD decryption--what a great new feature!" but...deal.

HandBrake will dynamically load VLC's copy of libdvdcss if you haveit in your Applications folder in Mac OS X, and if you're on Linux, andyou want to live on the wild side, you can install libdvdcss on yoursystem and get the same effect.

Translation of the last paragraph from nerdese:

We're not about to stop you from choosing to decrypt DVDs. If you'reon a Mac, and you have VLC 0.9.x installed, you won't even notice theinternal capability's gone. If you're on Linux, all you have to do isinstall a library.

Persistent queues

When queueing up a bunch of videos to encode, you need no longerfear a crash in HandBrake's graphical interfaces. Queued jobs arecached to disk for safekeeping between sessions.

New, better organized presets (Be sure to run "Update Built-In Presets" from the Presets menu!)

The presets are now "nested" in folders and have evolved. Notably,there is a new Apple "Universal" preset, designed to play and look gooddoing so on anything from an iPod Nano to an AppleTV.

There have been many changes to most of them. Please be aware thatmost presets now use different settings. This means most of them arenot suited for benchmarking 0.9.3 against 0.9.2. For example, theAppleTV preset is slower because it is now quality based, and producesmuch more efficient output. The Normal preset uses psychovisual ratedistortion. The High Profile presets use psychovisual trellising. Allof these setting changes can influence encoding time and output filesize.

For comparison purposes, there are several presets in theApple->Legacy folder (the old iPod High-Rez, the old AppleTV, andthe old iPhone presets) which remain unchanged since 0.9.2.

Audio-video synchronization

HandBrake should now keep lip-synch as well as a DVD player can.

Decomb filter

HandBrake now offers a decomb filter, in the style of AviSynth's. Itis a deinterlacer that can be left on all the time without degradingpicture quality, because it only deinterlaces video when it visiblyneeds to be.

Multi-threaded deinterlacing

The "Slow" and "Slower" filters, as well as the new decomb filter,will now take advantage of as many processors as you can throw at them.

"Same as source framerate" really is the same as the source framerate

HandBrake now, by default, passes through the exact video framerateof the source instead of smoothing to a constant rate, which could leadto frames being duplicated or dropped.

Theora video encoding

HandBrake now can encode video using the Theora codec.

Updated libraries

Besides x264, updated libraries include libsamplerate, libogg,xvidcore, libmpeg2, lame, faac, and ffmpeg's libavcodec, libavformat,and libswscale.

Massive improvements to all interfaces

As hard as it might be to believe, the changes listed above are only the tip of the iceberg. A much longer list is available,but even that is only a brief summary. There have been well over 600changes to HandBrake's code base since 0.9.2, including hundreds of bugfixes, and a thorough log can be found on the Trac.

voor de goede orde, DTS werkt (nog) niet, DMM wil dit wel gaan implementeren, WMV en andere microsoft codecs zullen nooit ondersteunt worden

Dolby 5.1 werkt wel?
Ik krijg alleen prologig2 , zowel met de tv uitzendingen als ook de dvd speler
