Arabsat launches 5A 23rd of June 2010

Arab Satellite Communications Organization (Arabsat) announced today that the launch of 5A will take place on June 23rd, 2010 at 21:42 GMT by Arianespace (Ariane-5 Rocket).

 

Khalid bin Ahmed Balkheyour President & CEO of Arabsat said “Arabsat-5A multi-mission satellite will provide additional capacity at 30.5º East for a large range of satellite communications services such as television backhauling and broadcasting, telephony, business communications, Internet trunking and the provision of VSAT and other interactive services, over the whole continent of Africa, Central Asia and Middle East (MENA) region”.

Arabsat-5A Satellite model is Eurostar E3000, manufactured by both French Astrium and Thales Alenia Space.

 

The launch event will be broadcasted live on Arabsat Promotional channel on the following frequencies:

ARIANESPACE FLIGHT - Arabsat 5A & COMS

 

THE LAUNCH READINESS REVIEW (RAL) took place in Kourou on Monday, June 21, 2010 and authorized count-down operations for the Arabsat 5A & COMS.

For its second launch of the year, Arianespace will orbit the Arabsat 5A communications satellite for operator Arabsat, and the COMS multi-mission satellite for the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI).

The choice of Arianespace by leading space communications operators and manufacturers is clear international recognition of the company’s excellence in launch services.

It will be launched from the Ariane launch complex N° 3 (ELA3), in Kourou, French Guiana.

THE ARIANE 5 ECA LAUNCHER LIFT-OFF for this flight is scheduled on June 23, 2010 as soon as possible within the following launch window:

FLIGHT 195 – ARABSAT 5B - COMS: LAUNCH DELAYED

 

Kourou, June 23, 2010

 

During final count-down operations for Flight 195, an anomaly occurred in a launcher subsystem.

 

As a result, Arianespace has begun investigations to identify the cause of this anomaly.

 

The launch vehicle and its satellites have been placed in stand-by mode and maintained in fully safe conditions.

 

A new launch date will be announced as soon as possible
